WALI Equipment Successfully Delivered to Bolivia

Two twin-shaft shredder lines for processing waste tires, plastics and cardboard into alternative fuel for a cement plant in Bolivia.

WALI’s self-developed twin-shaft shredders have completed production and been successfully shipped to Bolivia.

The project consists of two twin-shaft shredder lines, purpose-built for processing local waste tires, plastics and cardboard. The shredded material will be supplied directly to a cement plant as alternative fuel.

Project Background: How Does Waste Turn into “Energy”?

In cement production, fuel costs account for a significant portion of expenses. Traditional coal-fired solutions are not only costly but also face increasing carbon-emission pressure. Waste tires, plastics and similar materials have a calorific value close to, or even comparable with, coal and can serve as alternative fuel for cement kilns after proper pretreatment.

The combustion temperature in cement kilns exceeds 1450°C and can completely decompose hazardous substances. Steel wire from shredded tires, after oxidation and melting at high temperature, can participate directly in the clinker sintering reaction, reducing the need for additional iron-bearing raw materials. Pretreating industrial waste for cement plants is therefore becoming an increasingly practical choice for overseas customers.

The Bolivian customer faced exactly this situation: local stockpiles of tires, plastics and cardboard were growing, while cement plants needed to reduce fuel costs. The two-stage twin-shaft shredder lines supplied by WALI create the bridge between waste and usable alternative fuel.

Solution: Two-Stage Twin-Shaft Shredding for Consistent Output

The project uses two twin-shaft shredders in series so that the final particle size meets the cement plant’s feeding requirements. Their shear-type cutting system uses two counter-rotating shafts to deliver strong shearing, tearing and squeezing forces.

Low-speed, high-torque drive

Heavy-duty planetary gear reducers provide high torque at low speed, allowing the machines to handle tires, plastic drums, thick cardboard and other difficult feedstock with low noise and efficient power use.

Durable alloy-steel cutters

The rotating cutters are forged from high-strength alloy steel and hardened through heat treatment for long service life.

PLC intelligent control

The standard PLC control system includes automatic overload reverse protection. When blockage or motor overload is detected, the machine reverses to clear the jam, helping reduce downtime and maintain continuous production.

Primary shredding performs the coarse size reduction, while secondary shredding refines the material. Together, the two stages provide tighter particle-size control for cement-kiln alternative fuel.
